Performance Analysis of All-Optical Multicast Routing Algorithms with Sparse Splitting

چکیده
In this paper we study the multicast routing problem in all-optical WDM networks with sparse splitting capacity. In the literature, there are several proposals on finding the best way to construct multicast light-trees (or light-forests) with the objective of minimizing the number of wavelengths (link stress), the maximum end-to-end delay from the source to the destinations (maximum delay) and/or the total number of wavelength channels used (total cost) of the light-forests. However, balancing all these criteria is very difficult. Particularly, end-to-end delay and link tress cannot be minimized simultaneously. Hence, it is interesting to find a good approach that can provide a trade-off solution. Putting this into practice, we propose a comparative study of the most known algorithms and introduce a new one which can provide a good trade-off among those three criteria. Simulation results and comparison point out that our proposal provides the best link stress, a low maximum delay and low total cost of the multicast forest among considered algorithms. Especially, our proposal works best in dense networks, and/or with a large multicast group size in comparison to the classical algorithms.

All Optical Multicast Routing in Sparse-Splitting Optical Networks
This paper studies all-optical multicast routing in wavelength-routed optical networks with sparse light splitting. In a sparse splitting network, only a small percentage of nodes are capable of light splitting, i.e., multicast capable. The typical solutions of existing multicast routing algorithms for sparse splitting networks combine an existing Steiner Tree heuristic with some rerouting proc...

This investigation examines all-optical multicast routing in wavelength-routed optical networks with sparse Multicast Capable (MC) nodes that have three phases. The first phase is the MC node placement, and the maximum path count first (MPCF) algorithm is utilized to obtain candidates for MC nodes. The second phase is a multicast routing with MC-based schemes which including two algorithms, nam...

In this paper, we investigate the problem of Multicast Routing in Sparse Splitting Networks (MR-SSN). Given a network topology with the multicast capable nodes distributed uniformly throughout the network, and a multicast session, the MR-SSN problem is to find a route from the source node of the multicast session to all destinations of the multicast session such that the total number of fibers ...

As the interest of the Internet multicasting increases, the huge portion of the future traffic in optical WDM networks is expected to be strongly related to multicast applications and thus the technology for grooming such traffics also becomes important. In this study, we investigate the problem of multicast traffic grooming in WDM optical mesh networks with sparse-splitting capability. The pro...
